Ben n Jerry's
So the long awaited gig at Ben n Jerry's has come and gone - that was six days ago, I believe? My blog posts tend to be rather lagging 'cos I procrastinate..but I figured that if anything is worth blogging about, I would blog about it with as much passion six days on. There have been many things that I'd intended to write about, but lost interest in along the way.
Now as I was saying, I guess we can all safely conclude that the performance fell short of expectations..but did it really matter? There's so much more to be grateful for - we had an excellent audience, we made mistakes and gained experience, and despite all of its shortcomings, the set definitely had its good moments. But the best thing I've taken away from the gig - and practising for it - was becoming closer to the band. I've been in Mr. Pink for over a year, but for the most part, I never felt like I really knew them, even after three performances. I guess a large part of what made this gig different must've been the uphill task of perfecting five songs given impossibly limited time. Not to mention the fact that Elaine and Rayner looked set to part ways with the band really soon.
As it turns out, Rayner is really leaving, and Elaine has decided to go acoustic. It's a shame, cos (I like to think) that we had something really good going on. Now we just have to pick up the pieces and see what happens from here I guess. As it is, I am just thankful to be in this band, and grateful that we're still intact (more or less :P) Jeremy, Tovya, Elaine, Rayner, Larissa, Cerlyn and Sam, thanks for everything (:
(am I the only one here without a christian name?)
Another realisation that stemmed from the recent two gigs was that I don't particularly enjoy performing. I don't actually mind, but I guess most of the time I'm quite content with just playing music for the sake of it and feeling happy in the process. But I suppose performances give us something to look forward to, an incentive to really polish up our playing. It's stressful, but ultimately gratifying.
For now, it's pretty much back to the drawing board - writing and trying out new songs. Haven't written anything since SIP!
