London

London so far, as far as I can recall:
Arrived at Heathrow where customs were cleared rather smoothly. Cabbed down to James Hotel and struggled to get the luggage up the stairs. The hotel was owned by George, this kindly old gentleman who’s always so nice he provides us with sausages, eggs and buns for breakfast. The living conditions weren’t superb, but you couldn’t ask for a better deal at 15 pnds per head per night.
The first two days were lots of fun, exploring the South Ken neighbourhood with Anne Charles and Daniel. Kensington Gardens was beautiful, and I finally got to see that Peter Pan statue I’d heard about.
Saturday came and it was time to part ways with the rest of them as I dragged all 41kg of my luggage from James Hotel to Garden Hall near school. I had to stop to catch my breath at certain intervals during the 30min walk. Members of the Garden wardening team were there to welcome us. And they were very hospitable. My room turned out to be on the fourth floor, and my roommate, to my delight, was indeed Ming Wang, my coursemate.
Went for the Freshers' walkabout with Singsoc in the afternoon, which didn't really make much of a difference since we'd already gotten pretty familiar with the area. As we made our way back to the halls in the evening, the subwarden caught us and coaxed us into attending the Boat Party that night. So we went. Took the tube for the first time, down to Westminster where the eponymous abbey and the London Eye are located. The Tube trains are basically smaller and bumpier than the MRT. I promise to cherish the MRT with all my might when I come back. Upon boarding the boat, I bought a pint of Carlsberg for 4.50 pnds (which isnt thaaat bad, considering its on a boat) and attempted to mingle with everyone. After piggybacking a senior up and down the aisle, I soon realised that the sproeans at the corner table weren't doing anything. So I joined them and nua-ed for the rest of the night. I must say it was quite upsetting to be forced into this, but what the heck, it's a FREE CRUISE.

Anne's parents treated us to a delicious Chinese lunch on Sunday, the best one I had since coming to this country with really weird food. In any case, that really hit the spot, and I can't remember the rest of the day really.

My laptop is running out of battery now so this post will end here. Stupid hall still doesn't have internet.
